2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake Produces a Venomous 850 HP

by Auto News on September 19, 2012

Just in time for the 50th birthday of Shelby American, the company is producing a Super Snake that is more powerful than ever. Along with optional performance upgrades, the 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake will offer fierce styling cues, a wide range of color options, and novelty badging.

The Super Snake arrives stealthily on the scene with only 500 copies available for sale this year. It is offered in both the coupe and convertible versions. Buyers of the 2013 Ford GT500 Super Snake can opt for the base V8 engine offering 650+ horsepower or can upgrade to an 850 horsepower version for added fun on the road.

The special GT500 Super Snake receives an upgraded suspension system, cooling package with new radiator, heat exchanger, and aluminum cooling tanks, and a Borla exhaust system. Forged Shelby brakes with six-piston fronts and four-piston rear calipers with cross drilled and ventilated rotors are also on the Super Snake.

Buyers will be able to choose from red, white, blue, grey, and black exterior paint colors as well as black, blue, white, or grey stripes. Unique 20-inch wheels (black or silver) and performance tires also come with the upgraded Shelby. A widebody kit is optional. The exterior also features a bold fiberglass hood with the classic Shelby Super Snake design.

Adorning the inside of the 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snake are embroidered Shelby headrests and signature Shelby floor mats and badging. Optional is a two-toned leather interior.

The Super Snake package will cost buyers $28,995 on top of the base Shelby GT500 car. Customers looking for the base 650+ horsepower model can expect to pay around $83,000 while buyers opting for the more powerful 850 horsepower version will shell out over $94,000. A car configurator allows potential owners to customize their own Shelby.
