Hummer H2 (2003-2009)
The list of automotive “one-hit wonders” would be incomplete without including the iconic Hummer series. Consumers who flocked to the Hummer were looking for high performance or simply were attracted to the brusque, militaristic look of this vehicle. These tank-like trucks were certainly the talk of the town throughout the early 2000s.
During the early 2000s, the automotive market benefited from the huge success of large SUVs. Needless to say, the Hummer H2 took this to the extreme. This 6,600-pound beast was equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 393 horsepower in its latest version. Fuel economy information was never released for the Hummer H2, and consumers probably don’t want to know anyway. Amidst the spike in gas prices starting in 2008, the H2 simply became impractical for buyers in the midst of a recession.
