Out of the three sedans in this comparison, the 2012 Volvo S60 provides the best performance for its price tag. For $30,975, consumers will enjoy a sprightly 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine boasting 250 horsepower. The newly-redesigned Volvo S60 also is the fastest option, zooming from zero to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. However, the Volvo S60 achieves a less impressive stopping distance compared to the Buick Regal, which is slower to accelerate.
As king of safety, Volvo equips its S60 with a number of unique enhanced safety features, including an optional pedestrian detection feature that automatically applies the brakes to help avoid hitting pedestrians on the street. Also available are warnings for inattentive drivers as well as blind-spot warning systems and and anti-collision devices.
Fuel economy for this stylish sedan is 20/30 mpg, which is comparable to its TSX competitor. And like the TSX, the Volvo S60 is a bit on the small side, with only 12 cubic feet of space. But the best part of the Volvo S60 is that it provides ample power and confident handling and steering, which drivers with a sporty spirit will appreciate.
