Car Review: 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn Pickup

Trucks, Testosterone – the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab

Testosterone is a beautiful thing. Adrenaline is possibly better. Mix the two together, add heaping scoop of best-in-class ride quality and comfort, and that is the recipe for the award-winning 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab, Big Horn-style.

No truck is complete without bulging fenders, a protruding fascia and four husky tires. The Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn, rolling on 20-inch chrome-clad wheels, does not disappoint. The Big Horn package adds chrome heated mirrors, fog headlamps, side steps and signature badging. As the sheet metal embodiment of rugged masculinity, the Ram is liable to have onlookers dreaming and drooling.

Pickup trucks typically suffer from harsh, jolting rides. But one must bow in gratitude to the Dodge Ram 1500, a different – dare it be said, better? – type of truck. Its body-on-frame chassis is connected to a front independent suspension and multi-link rear suspension, augmented by two anti-sway bars. RWD or AWD is available. But the Ram not sacrifice power for comfort. The juiced V8 powerplant, when properly equipped, can haul an ample 10,000 pounds. “Tow away.”

But ruggedness must be tempered with opulence. Thus, remote keyless entry, power accessories, split bench seats, and lots of storage bins all make their debut. A six-speaker audio system with MP3 capability and speed control top out the standard features roster. Popular options include a Garmin navigation system, 3G Wi-Fi hotspot and Bluetooth. The interior is appropriately utilitarian, using vinyl upholstery and easy-to-clean plastic surfaces. However, there are enough soft materials and stylish accents to keep the more aesthetically-inclined quite satisfied.

The 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn comes loaded with a plethora of safety features, including traction control, trailer-sway control and an abundance of airbags. As a reward, NHTSA showered the pickup with a shower of five-star ratings in front- and side-impact tests.

Tow, trek or travel, look to the 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab.
