THE 2012 INFINITI G37 SPORT CONVERTIBLE REVIEW
Summary Review by Tess: Style, Performance, and Luxury
The sleek curves and refined silhouette of the 2012 Infiniti G37 Sport Convertible ensures it a place in the top tier of the performance convertible segment. Returning mostly unchanged for the 2012 model year, the Infiniti G37 Sport delivers visual appeal and above-average performance and fuel economy. This combination of good looks and practicality make it a preferred choice in the competitive entry-level luxury car automotive class.
Under the hood
The 2012 Infiniti G37 Sport Convertible is powered by a solid 3.7-liter V6 engine that delivers an estimated 325 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. It puts that power to work with outstanding accelerating power and can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just six seconds flat, an impressive time for this segment. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the Sport model and is paired with rear-wheel drive. Estimated fuel economy is rated at 16 miles to the gallon in the city and 24 in highway driving. (See annual fuel costs for the Infiniti G37 Sport Convertible).
Receiving mostly “Good” marks in IIHS safety tests, the 2012 Infiniti G37 also comes with a wide array of safety features, including six airbags, traction control, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, and intelligent cruise control that matches the speed of the car ahead. A rearview camera is standard.
Inside the cabin
The passenger cabin of the Infiniti G37 Sport Convertible is well appointed and intuitively designed with stylish touches that would be equally at home on much more expensive vehicles. Standard features for the G37 Sport include keyless entry and ignition, leather upholstery, power accessories, two-zone climate control, a power-retractable convertible hardtop, advanced navigation system, and a premium Bose CD stereo system. Optional features include a Technology Package that provides added safety and comfort with an enhanced climate control interface, upgraded rain-sensing windshield wipers, and adaptive cruise control.

On the road
If the 2012 Infiniti G37 Sport Convertible has one weak spot: it is in transmission quality. The six-speed manual transmission is preferred and offers solid performance in most driving situations. The seven-speed automatic, however, may display some uncertainty in changing gears, especially at the top end of the spectrum. Steering and handling are unimpeachable. Overall, however, the G37 Sport Convertible offers buyers the thrills and speed they want in a luxury performance car.
Conclusions
While some difficulties in upshifting may reduce the appeal of the 2012 Infiniti G37 Sport Convertible for performance-minded buyers, its combination of sleek good looks, solid acceleration, and luxurious features will make it a favorite in the entry-level luxury convertible marketplace.
