THE 2013 AUDI A5 COUPE REVIEW

Summary Review by Tess: Upgraded and Updated

The 2013 model year has been a busy one for the Audi engineering and design team; several of their most popular vehicles have just received full makeovers. The 2013 Audi A5 coupe is part of that redesign effort and returns with sleeker exterior lines and a number of new features designed to appeal to a younger demographic. Updates include the availability of the new Audi Connect system, an on-board factory-installed 3G wireless connection that creates a hotspot almost anywhere the Audi A5 coupe goes. This added connectivity is sure to attract buzz from tech-savvy drivers. Along with the power and performance of the A4, these upgrades will ensure the popularity of this re-imagined classic.

Under the hood
The redesign of the 2013 Audi A5 coupe does not extend to its engine; the 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine returns unchanged and produces 211 horsepower, 258 lb-ft of torque, and a top-end 0 to 60 time of 4.9 seconds. All-wheel drive is standard for the A5 coupe, which features a six-speed manual or an advanced eight-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy weighs in at an estimated 22 miles to the gallon in the city and an above-average 30 miles to the gallon in highway driving. (See estimated annual fuel costs and fuel economy info for the A5 coupe). Safety features include antilock brakes, available daytime running lights, air bags, and stability controls.

Inside the cabin
The big news inside the passenger cabin is not the minor cosmetic redesign and added choices for buyers. Instead, most attention will be focused on the all-new Audi Connect system that turns the Audi A5 coupe into a mobile wireless hotspot using 3G technology. It also uses Google Earth images for the navigation screen for easier traveling, and provides fast information on weather and gas prices. All the usual suspects are included on the standard equipment list including climate control, cruise control, leather upholstery, full power accessories, and a deluxe CD stereo system.

On the road
Audi is known for its exceptional driveability, and the 2013 A5 coupe continues that tradition with solid handling and performance. The Audi Drive Select feature has been expanded for 2013 with a new Efficiency setting; most drivers will want to avoid this setting, however, as it improves fuel economy by reducing responsiveness to an unacceptable degree.

Conclusions
The upgrades and updates to the 2013 Audi A5 coupe are welcome additions to this already elite vehicle. The new Audi Connect system is likely to be the big news, however, and will attract its share of attention throughout the automotive blogosphere.
