THE 2013 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD FOUR-DOOR WORK TRUCK REVIEW

Summary Review by Tess: No-Nonsense Performance for Tough Jobs

The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Four-Door Work Truck is one of the toughest, most durable vehicles on the road. Although it lacks the frills and luxury features available on the upper trim levels, the Work Truck trim level delivers solid competence in a spartan package. Designed primarily as a fleet vehicle, the Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab Work Truck allows buyers to add only those options they need, making it a cost-effective choice for budget-minded consumers with high-end towing and hauling needs.

Under the hood
A compressed natural gas version is available again for 2013, providing 301 horsepower from a 6.0-liter engine. Due to the limited availability of this fuel, however, most buyers will want to opt for the more conventional choices.

The standard 6.0-liter V8 engine of the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD four-door pickup delivers 360 horsepower, 380 lb-ft of torque, and up to 13,000 pounds worth of towing capability. For even more torque and horsepower, buyers can upgrade to the 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8. This powerhouse engine delivers 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque and can manage up to 17,800 pounds of fifth-wheel towing capacity when properly equipped. In both engine configurations, the Silverado 2500HD can be purchased with rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. The exclusive six-speed shiftable automatic transmission is the sole choice for both engines. Safety features include the StabiliTrak electronic stability system, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, hill start assist and trailer sway control systems, and air bags. A rearview camera for added safety on the road is available as an option.

Inside the cabin
Air conditioning and a basic AM/FM stereo are standard on the 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500HD four-door pickup. Other standard features include vinyl flooring and upholstery and bench rear seating. Most buyers will want to add a few optional features. These include a CD stereo system, full power accessories, cloth upholstery, adjustable front seats, keyless entry, and upgraded flooring options.

On the road
The 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500HD four-door provides solid handling and good acceleration, even when fully loaded. The 6.0-liter V8 engine may whine a bit at full load, but the optional 6.6-liter turbodiesel handles even these situations with aplomb, making it a preferred choice for buyers who intend to haul or tow larger loads on a regular basis.

Conclusions
The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Four-Door Work Truck continues to deliver basic performance and practicality in a reliable and rugged package for everyday working use.
