THE 2013 DODGE DART REVIEW

Summary Review by Tess: The Classic Returns

A new entry in the automotive marketplace, the 2013 Dodge Dart sedan bears little resemblance to its previous iteration manufactured from 1960 to 1976 in the U.S. The lean, lanky styling of the original Dart is echoed, however, in the sleek aerodynamic lines of this compact sedan. The all-new Dart offers exceptional fuel economy and good performance for its automotive segment, making it a solid choice for commuting and family transportation applications.

Under the hood
Three innovative engines are available for the new Dodge Dart. The first is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 160 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under ten seconds. Fuel economy is outstanding at 25 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon in highway driving. (See estimated annual fuel costs with the Dart).

The midrange engine is a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 160 horsepower, 184 lb-ft of torque and manages the 0 to 60 run in 8.3 seconds, an excellent time for this automotive class. Fuel economy is improved as well at 27 miles per gallon when driving in city traffic and an impressive 39 miles per gallon on the open road. A special aero package will soon be available to buyers who opt for the 1.4-liter small engine. This add-on will provide for a remarkable 41 mpg on the highway.

Finally, the robust 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is due for release later on this year and is slated to offer 184 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. All models feature front-wheel drive and can be configured with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

Inside the cabin
The base trim level of the 2013 Dodge Dart offers few creature comforts; it even lacks air conditioning. The base is only equipped with basics: a simple CD stereo system and power windows. Most buyers will want to opt for the SXT trim level, which includes air conditioning, full power accessories, and an upgraded sound system. Options include iPod, USB and SD card interfaces, cruise control, remote ignition for vehicles equipped with automatic transmission, and leather upholstery.

(Check out Limited and Rallye trim levels).

On the road
The 2.0-liter base engine of the Dodge Dart offers acceptable performance for most city driving conditions, but more demanding drivers should consider the turbocharged 1.4-liter engine. This powerhouse delivers the same horsepower as the base model but ups the torque to provide a more exciting driving experience and more reliable power behind the wheel.

Conclusions
The 2013 Dodge Dart sedan is a sleek new entry in the compact sedan marketplace. Its combination of stand-out looks and solid performance will make it a favorite among drivers looking for something different in this automotive class.
