THE 2013 FORD EDGE REVIEW

Summary Review by Tess: Refinement Sets This Crossover Apart

The 2013 Ford Edge is a midsize crossover SUV with enough room for five and ample cargo space for all their gear. Designed with practicality in mind, the Edge is available in three engine choices and four well-equipped trim levels to suit almost any buyer. Most buyers will opt for the base model or the EcoBoost version, but performance-minded drivers will want to give the 3.7-liter Sport engine a test drive; this powerhouse delivers 305 horsepower and can take the Edge from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 7.5 seconds, an impressive time for this automotive segment.

Under the hood
The base engine is a 3.5-liter V6 that puts out 285 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. The smaller EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivers 240 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque; it manages 21 miles to the gallon in the city and can go 30 miles to the gallon on the highway. For top-notch performance, buyers can opt for the top-end Sport trim with a 3.7-liter V6 producing 305 horsepower, 280 lb-ft of torque, and fuel economy of 19/26 mpg.

Inside the cabin
The 2013 Ford Edge comes standard with a six-speaker CD stereo, air conditioning, cruise control, and a trip computer. Optional features include dual-zone climate control, fold-down second-row seating, leather upholstery, rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and heated mirrors. Automatic wipers, a deluxe Sony sound system, and a rear-seat entertainment center are also available as options on the 2013 Ford Edge.

On the road
The Edge delivers a quiet, comfortable ride with plenty of interior room for passengers and driver. While performance may be unremarkable, it is reliable even in demanding highway driving conditions and provides adequate pickup and power for most city and highway challenges.

Conclusions
The 2013 Ford Edge is a refined alternative in a crowded market segment. With plenty of configuration options, Ford has made it easy to customize the Edge for a wide range of buyers and driving needs.
