One of the enduring mainstays of the American road, the Ford Taurus, has consistently earned its share of dedicated enthusiasts since its debut in 1986. The 2013 Ford Taurus SHO lives up to the best of that tradition with sleek new styling and a twin-turbocharged engine that offers aggressive acceleration and outstanding performance. Spacious and comfortable, the Taurus SHO offers ample room for five inside and plenty of cargo space in its sizable trunk. Its performance car aspirations, however, make this the most expensive Taurus with a price tag edging into the range of some luxury sedans.

Under the hood
The high performance engine of the 2013 Ford Taurus SHO is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that is capable of producing an impressive 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, enough power to take this full-size sedan from 0 to 60 in just 5.8 seconds. All-wheel drive is standard and is paired with a six-speed shiftable automatic transmission, the only available choice for the Taurus SHO sedan. Fuel economy is above average for this automotive class at 17 miles to the gallon in the city and 25 in highway driving. Safety features for the Ford Taurus SHO include antilock brakes, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera for backing and parking, and an advanced stability control system.

Inside the cabin
The 2013 Ford Taurus SHO offers a wide range of standard features including leather upholstery with imitation suede accents, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control system, cruise control, and an advanced Sony sound system with CD player, multi-USB ports, Bluetooth and iPod interfaces, and HD radio. An optional massage function is available for front seats; the SHO Performance Package includes a number of tweaks and upgrades to steering, suspension, and tires for a more responsive ride.

On the road
The power provided by the twin-turbocharged engine allows the 2013 Ford Taurus SHO to outrun most of its competition. With above average gas mileage and a comfortable interior, the Taurus SHO continues to provide an outstanding driving experience for performance-minded drivers.

Conclusions
While the Taurus lineup is generally consigned to the ranks of family-friendly sedans, the SHO sets itself apart with exceptional performance and solid handling. However, the hefty price tag may prove an effective deterrent for some budget-minded buyers.
