THE 2013 HYUNDAI EQUUS REVIEW

Summary Review by Tess: Continuing to Impress

The 2013 Hyundai Equus sedan returns with no major updates for the new model year and continues to deliver exceptional value for buyers in the market for a fully loaded full-size sedan. As the flagship of the Hyundai lineup, the Equus is available in two deluxe trim levels and includes a wide range of standard features designed with luxury in mind. Performance has not been overlooked, however; the Hyundai Equus manages the 0 to 60 miles per hour run in just 5.7 seconds, putting it on a par with other full-size luxury sedans and ensuring its appeal for performance-minded drivers.

Under the hood
The powerful Hyundai Equus sedan derives its power from its 5.0-liter double overhead cam V8 engine. This powerhouse engine can produce as much as 429 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, as is the innovative eight-speed shiftable automatic transmission. Fuel economy is average for the automotive segment at 15 miles per gallon in city driving and up to 23 miles per gallon in highway driving conditions. Safety features include the expected front, rear, and side air bags, antilock braking, and stability controls. Rear parking sensors, a lane-departure alerting system, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, and collision avoidance technology are included as standard equipment for the Equus as well.

Inside the cabin
Quiet and comfortable, the 2013 Hyundai Equus sedan offers an extensive range of standard features on its base Signature trim level. Standard equipment includes sunroof, automatic climate control system, keyless startup and entry, full leather upholstery, power accessories, power adjustable front seats, and a six-CD changer stereo system with Bluetooth, iPod, auxiliary and USB interfaces. Most of the available options are designed for backseat passengers and include DVD entertainment system, rear-seat refrigerator, and sunshades to cut the glare. (Check out the top-end Ultimate trim level).

On the road
The well-insulated passenger cabin of the 2013 Hyundai Equus offers a comfortable, luxurious ride for driver and passengers. Performance is solid but lacks the thrills provided by some competitors. Nonetheless, the Hyundai Equus is an excellent choice for buyers looking for something different in the luxury sedan marketplace and willing to sacrifice top-end speed for added features and more comfort on the road.

Conclusions
For buyers looking for solid, quiet family transportation with enough power to manage almost any driving challenge, the 2013 Hyundai Equus sedan continues to deliver the goods at a more affordable price than the majority of its competitors.
