THE 2013 INFINITI JX35 REVIEW

Summary Review by Tess: A New Direction for Infiniti

The 2013 Infiniti JX35 is a new entry in the full-size SUV marketplace and offers seating for seven in a sleek, dependable package designed to appeal to buyers looking for solid family transportation. Along with the QX56, the 2013 JX35 represents the entry into a new market niche for Infiniti, which has traditionally catered to performance-minded drivers and commuters rather than the family vehicle market. While Infiniti has not completely abandoned the performance marketplace with the JX35, this seven-passenger SUV is designed specifically to move people from place to place efficiently without the raw power of some of its Infiniti siblings.

Under the hood
The all-new Infiniti JX35 features a large 3.5-liter V6 engine that is capable of producing 265 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque, enough power to take this SUV from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 8.3 seconds. Front-wheel drive is standard, but the optional all-wheel drive version offers better traction in challenging weather conditions. The sole available transmission is a continuously variable-speed automatic (CVT). Fuel economy is average at 18 miles to the gallon in the city and 24 in highway driving. The Infiniti JX35 comes equipped with a rearview camera, traction and stability control systems, and four-wheel antilock brakes. Front and rear parking sensors are optional.

Inside the cabin
The 2013 Infiniti JX35 offers a full range of luxurious standard features including leather upholstery, sunroof, three-zone automatic climate control, full power accessories, power-adjustable front seating, and a six-speaker stereo. Options include an advanced navigation system with hard drive, an upgraded Bose stereo system with Bluetooth interface, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with two screens, and adaptive cruise control.

On the road
The Infiniti JX35 is designed to suit the needs of families. Nowhere is that focus more evident than behind the wheel, where the luxurious interior is balanced by less than impressive performance and handling. The JX35 is a large SUV and handles like one; acceleration is limited by the sluggish response of the CVT but is generally adequate for most city driving needs. On the highway, however, seasoned Infiniti drivers will miss the top-end acceleration and power present in most of the automaker’s vehicles.

Conclusions
Luxurious and spacious, the 2013 Infiniti JX35 represents a new concept from this auto manufacturer. While performance-minded buyers will find the JX35 sadly disappointing, the family transportation segment finally has an Infiniti to call its own.
