THE 2013 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO REVIEW

Summary Review by Tess: Versatility and Performance

The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo offers buyers the rugged strength of a Jeep combined with the upscale elegance of an entry-level luxury midsize SUV from this brand. With plenty of room for five passengers inside its spacious cabin, the Laredo offers relatively good fuel economy and is a sensible choice for families looking for dependable transportation. Buyers should expect a comparatively steep price tag for this market segment, however, due to the cachet of the Jeep name and the lineup of standard features on this midsize SUV.

Under the hood
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo derives its motivating power from its 3.6-liter V6 engine, which generates 290 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain allows the Grand Cherokee Laredo to manage the 0 to 60 miles per hour run in just 9.0 seconds, an average time for this automotive class. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but most buyers will want to opt for the Quadra-Trac I or Quadra-Trac II four-wheel drive systems to make the most of the Jeep’s legendary off-road capabilities. The Laredo offers fuel economy of 17 miles to the gallon for city drivers and as much as 23 miles to the gallon in highway driving conditions. Safety features include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction controls, air bags, and active front head restraints to protect against whiplash in the event of a rear-end collision. Automatic headlights are standard on the Laredo, and forward collision detection and blind-spot warning systems are available as options.

(Also check out the Laredo X, which comes in a V6 or 360-horsepower V8 version.)

Inside the cabin
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo offers a nice selection of standard features that include fog lights, dual-zone air conditioning, a six-speaker stereo system with a CD player, and cruise control. Optional features include power-adjustable driver seat, keyless startup, and entry and built-in iPod and USB interfaces. Bluetooth, remote engine start, and an enhanced sound system are also available at an additional cost.

On the road
The 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo offers a smooth, comfortable ride for most city and highway driving situations and can step up to the challenges of off-road exploration with ease, especially when equipped with one of the four-wheel drive systems available on this versatile vehicle. Performance and handling are outstanding, but some buyers may find cargo space rather limited in this midsize SUV.

Conclusions
The performance and reliability of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo make it a preferred choice in this competitive automotive segment.
