THE 2013 MERCEDES-BENZ CLS550 REVIEW

Summary Review by Tess: Best of Both Worlds

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 sedan is an elegant example of European styling in motion. Returning with only minimal changes, this sleek four-door vehicle offers an exceptionally luxurious ride for driver and passengers alike. It seats four in comfort and is available in two trim levels that correspond with the rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models. The powerful 4.7-liter V8 engine can race from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.6 seconds, ensuring plenty of excitement for drivers and passengers in this elite luxury sedan.

Under the hood
The CLS550 sedan is powered by a 4.7-liter V8 engine that generates an impressive 402 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Available in rear-wheel drive or the 4MATIC all-wheel drive configuration, the CLS550 features a seven-speed shiftable automatic transmission. Fuel economy is above average for the class at 17 miles to the gallon for city driving and up to 25 miles per gallon on the highway. Safety features include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction controls, the Mercedes Attention Assist alerting system to combat drowsiness and distracted driving, and the exclusive PreSafe collision mitigation system to increase passenger safety in the event of an accident. Rear parking sensors and a rearview parking camera are available as options on the Mercedes CLS550 sedan.

Inside the cabin
The Mercedes-Benz CLS550 is nicely equipped on both trim levels; the primary difference between the base model and the 4MATIC is all-wheel drive. Standard features include dual-zone climate controls, power-adjustable front seats, sunroof, leather seating, navigation system, and a deluxe Harmon Kardon sound system with a six-CD changer. Options are limited due to the extensive list of standard equipment. Add-ons include a rearview camera, keyless entry and startup, power trunk closer and rear sunshade, and heated front seats.

On the road
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 sedan offers powerful acceleration and smooth shifting to provide a near-perfect experience behind the wheel. The optional all-wheel drive configuration provides added traction in inclement weather, but most drivers will be happy with the base model configuration of this exceptional feat of engineering. One drawback, however, is the lack of room in the back seat; this may prove challenging for buyers with older children or carpool duties to manage.

Conclusions
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 sedan is a blend of high-powered coupe and luxurious sedan, offering buyers the best of both worlds in a sleek and compact performance vehicle.
