THE 2013 SUBARU LEGACY 2.5i REVIEW

Summary Review by Tess: Continuing Its Tradition of Sedate Luxury

The 2013 Subaru Legacy 2.5i sedan is aptly named. As the heir to a long tradition of sleek, European-influenced sedans, the Legacy 2.5i has a great deal to live up to. It manages this with style and poise and delivers an exceptional driving experience for those looking for understated excellence in a five-passenger sedan. Best of all, it delivers this elegant performance at an reasonable price, making it an affordable luxury for budget-minded buyers.

Under the hood
The Subaru Legacy 2.5i is powered by a flat four-cylinder engine that occupies 2.5 liters of space under the hood and produces an impressive 173 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 9.4 seconds, a stodgy time for this automotive segment. All-wheel drive is standard and can be combined with a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is good at 24 miles to the gallon in stop-and-go city traffic and 32 miles to the gallon on the highway. Safety features for the 2013 Subaru Legacy 2.5i include side curtain and front side air bags, stability controls, and antilock braking. Options include the EyeSight system for driving assistance and a rearview camera.

Inside the cabin
The 2013 Subaru Legacy 2.5i sedan seats five in comfort. Available in three trim levels, it is nicely equipped on the base 2.5i model with air conditioning, power windows, power locks and power mirrors, and a sound system with four speakers, a CD player and iPod, USB, and Bluetooth connections for added entertainment and communication options. Optional features include heated front seats and mirrors, power-adjustable driver’s seat, windshield wiper de-icer, fog lights, dual-zone climate control, a Harman Kardon stereo system, an advanced navigation system with touchscreen interface, and a sunroof.

On the road
The Subaru Legacy offers reliable if uninspiring performance in a solid family-oriented sedan. Its price tag will make it popular with many buyers, but it is less powerful than most other competitors in its automotive segment and offers a safe, sedate ride for drivers more interested in comfort than performance.

Conclusions
A sedate and sophisticated entry in the family sedan segment, the 2013 Subaru Legacy 2.5i offers enough luxurious features and style to satisfy buyers on a budget. However, its 2.5-liter engine lacks the power to please performance-hungry drivers and may limit its appeal as a solution for the daily commute.
