THE 2014 FORD F250 CREW CAB PICKUP TRUCK REVIEW
Summary Review by Josh: A Powerful Addition
While fuel economy is usually a major selling point, people who “own work” need the power, payload and towing capacity of a full-size pickup truck. The 2014 Ford F250 Crew Cab was custom-built for this role. The truck is available in two-wheel and four-wheel drive as well as an 8-foot-long bed or a 6.75-foot short bed. America’s best-selling brand of full-size pickup trucks continues to earn customer loyalty with stellar performance and a wide assortment of standard and optional amenities.
Power and Performance
Ford equipped the F250 Crew Cab with a 6.2L Flex Fuel V8 engine that is rated at 385 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. Owners can opt for a 6.7L, four-valve, power stroke V8 turbo diesel that cranks out 400 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque. Both engines dispense their power through a TorqShift heavy-duty six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. A properly configured F250 can tow 12,500 pounds and has a maximum payload of more than 3,400 pounds.
Features and Highlights
F250 Crew Cab trim levels include XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum. Ford outfitted the interior with a color-coordinated instrument panel that displays distance-to-empty and warning messages as well as trip odometer and tachometer stats. The pickup truck has two map lights, two instrument panel-mounted power outlets, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, intermittent windshield wipers and MyKey technology, which enables owners to set volume and upper-speed limits. Ford provides a 12.5K trailer hitch receiver, tow hooks and tie-down points.
Exterior features include a partitionable and stackable pickup box, dual beam halogen headlamps, an illuminated cargo area and a tailgate assist, which controls the rate of descent. The F250 is equipped with the SOS post-crash alert system, hill launch assist and an anti-theft ignition. The integrated tailgate step, splash guards, bed mat and roof clearance lights are available options.
The reverse vehicle aid sensor and rearview camera are optional equipment for the XLT and standard features on Platinum, King Ranch and Lariat. Owners can customize their vehicles with camper, off-road and various heavy service suspension packages.
The 2014 Ford F250 Crew Cab provides sure-footed handling through sophisticated features like AdvanceTrac along with roll stability and trailer sway. The suspension system can negotiate a variety of road conditions, and the vehicle has sufficient power for massive hauling and towing tasks. Although the passenger compartment is understated, the versatile pickup is quiet and comfortable.
