Nissan is recalling certain 2011 model year Rogue crossover vehicles due to problems with the electric power steering assist control units. Affected models were built between Aug. 17 and Oct. 30 of last year.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, circuit boards on the electric power steering (EPS) assist control units were not installed in the correct position, which may cause them to fail. This may result in the malfunctioning of the power steering assist feature, requiring the driver to apply additional force to properly steer the vehicle. The increased difficulty in steering may increase the risk of collisions.
Nissan will notify owners of the affected vehicles and will replace the EPS control units for free. The recall, which affects over 7,000 vehicles, is expected to begin this month.
